Are you looking for a getaway in 2022? As a new resident of Texas, I’ve done some exploring in my new home of Houston, and surrounding cities. Whether you’re near or far, there are so many opportunities for adventure in Texas!

Below are some of the cities in Texas that I’ve had the chance to visit or hope to soon… take a look and start planning your next vacation or even stay-cation!

  1. Houston

This city has so much to offer! Whether it be concerts, museums, shopping, and DELICIOUS food, you can’t go wrong with a weekend trip to the big city. Pinkerton’s BBQ will give you a taste of the best BBQ that Texas has to offer. 19th Street is full of unique shops from eclectic home décor to the perfect Texas souvenirs. During baseball season, seeing the Astros play is a must! The rodeo is coming to town in late February until the end of March and is HUGE around here – lots of food and country music!

  • Dallas

Here you can find great food and nightlife. You can also visit the Cowboys stadium near Dallas and take a tour of the stadium or go watch a game! There is plenty of shopping in Highland Park Village. The State Fair of Texas comes to town during September and October. It is the longest running state fair and one of the largest! There are also a couple of amazing presidential museums in Dallas that are worth the trip.

  • Austin

The capital of Texas! This place is FULL of adventure. There are many state parks, places to hike, and nature trails. Art and culture are flowing out of this city and there are countless murals that make the perfect photo opp. This is the place to experience some of the wonderful live music that Texas has to offer, especially on Sixth Street or Rainey Street. If you get the chance, you should also experience the Austin City Limits music festival! There are so many unique adventures and local stores that you truly will not find anywhere else. As the saying goes, “Keep Austin Weird”.

  • San Antonio

If you haven’t seen the San Antonio River Walk with your own eyes, you are missing out! The atmosphere all along the river is fun and exciting and the lit trees reflecting on the river are what makes this place so beautiful. The Mexican food in San Antonio is unforgettable and the BEST you can find in Texas. There are also amusement parks like Six Flags and Sea World here – fun for the whole family! San Antonio is a city with a lot of culture in areas like the Alamo and the Missions National Historical Park.

  • Fredericksburg

Known as the “Hill Country” of Texas, Fredericksburg has so much to offer to tourists. It has the feeling of a quaint, old-fashioned, small town. It is now the perfect destination for girls’ trips but also has a lot of family-friendly places for your itinerary. There are countless wineries and tasting rooms that offer shuttles to take you along each stop of the wine tour. Main Street has shops, restaurants, and galleries. Biergartens and the delicious German restaurants give Fredericksburg its unique atmosphere – which is celebrated in the town’s Oktoberfest in the fall.

Each city brings something different to the table, which is what makes Texas the wonderful state that it is. Get to planning!
